Owner of TikTok, ByteDance, had a similar idea in mind when they released Whee on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Following Meta's attempt to mimic Twitter with Threads. goal is to "capture and share real-life photos that only your friends can see, allowing you to be your most authentic self," as stated in the app's description. Screenshots of the app released on the Play Store listing further establish that it is a replica of Instagram, more precisely, a copy of the program's early iterations when sharing photos was its main function.
We downloaded Whee, but it feels pretty basic, with only a messaging list, a create post option where you can add an image from your picture bank or capture one on the spot, and your feed. You only get a conventional feed to scroll through, unlike Instagram. It differs from Instagram in that all you can do is publish images to your feed; adding a comment is the sole option to add a caption.
Apart from that, you can like, share, and comment on photos, much as on X (previously known as Twitter). To create an account, simply link your TikTok account to your Instagram account, just like you would with Threads. Once your account is created, you may add contacts from people you know on TikTok. As of right now, there isn't much to do with the app, and it's unclear if ByteDance has any more ambitions for this imitation of Instagram.
